Gnarly Diminished
« on: June 21, 2012, 08:38:50 PM »
I noticed that Overblow.Com has a tuning named "Gnarly Diminished".   Refresh my memory what that's about?  Do you play it much Gnarly? If I had a tuning named after me,  I'd feel obliged to make it my primary harp!

I just retuned the 270 I had in this tuning, back to Orchestra Bebop--I figure that's my tuning.
At the end of the day it's all 24-7

I think I know the answer, and since Gary is being coy -

Gary discovered a variation of diminished tuning where the enharmonic falls on the blow button/draw, instead of draw button/blow.  Also, this makes the enharmonic fall on the same hole, rather than on adjacent holes, as is with 'standard' diminished tuning.

The only problem is, the tuning variation was already discovered by either Salvitz/Beauregard (US pat# 5166461) or Dr. John Yeadon (UK pat #2259802), at least according to Harp On!

I'm sure Gary will invent his very own tuning soon if he hasn't already.  I got mine, it's called Ska tuning, where every reed is tuned to the same pitch.  I couldn't help myself, I dreamed it!

Diminished tuning all the time!  Sirius (G dim), G48s (Bb dim, C dim, & C# dim), CX-12 (Ab dim), 260

I think Seydel might have trouble making one of those Ska tuned harps.   The reed slots wouldn't be able to handle it.
