Hey everybody, I'm glad I am now a member of this group and I look forward to discovering tips and ideas for playing the Chromatic, I just started playing harmonica (diatonic) 3 months ago and I feel I'm ready to jump into the world of the Chromatic.  I've played Trombone for nearly a decade now and wanted to learn something different and found myself blowing and mostly drawing on a Harp.  Looking forward to conversing with the vast amount of knowledge on this board.

I play blues (I'm a jazz trombone player so it came natural) and want to play Jazz on the Harp

Thanks,
   Trombone

Welcome. I'm a trombone player too. I think a number of us play other instruments.

What else is out there? Piano, guitar, flute?

Anyone?

Glad to meet others who make music with plumbing.  I'm a trumpet man.  Got my start in jazz too at age 13, performing that is.
Welcome.  This is a great place to find information, friends, and entertainment.

Gee, Greg, I think it's been covered before. But here goes: flute, piccolo, penny whistle, recorder, autoharp, baritone ukulele, fretted dulcimer, chromatic harmonica, chord harmonica, tremolo harmonica. I sing in three choruses, and am developing renewed interest in conducting.

Hello, Trombone.

Welcome to Slidemeister.

You've got many new friends here.

I currently play all percussion instruments known, and all harmonica types known, except the Hohner Harmonetta, an antique Chromatic melody-chord harmonica with buttons, like a computer keyboard.

In college, I learned basic techniques (1-2 semesters each) on all orchestral musical instruments, including trombone. I've forgotten all of that.

Studying the instruments without frets (orchestral strings) and without pistons or valves (trombones) were the most difficult for me, as I had no experience with melodic ear training (except timpani) prior to college.

The other instruments (valved, pistoned, or finger-holes or pads) were considerably easier for me. Especially the woodwinds. The flute was the easiest of all. It must have been the excellent flute teacher.

Best Regards

John Broecker
My Hohner 48 Chord Harmonica was free, so that's why I bought it.

I'm not about to begin mentioning all the instruments I play (played ?) and/or taught.  You might think that I mean I was any kind of good at them.  :o)>--

This is one of the many influences that makes a forum like this work.
There is such a variety of musical experiences and other than musical experience, that we have so many ways of approaching issues; issues that are not isolated to the harmonica, but are shared with other instruments and even non musical activities.
Great resource potential from you experienced chromatic performers and technicians, but also from musicians of other instruments and people with other valued knowledge.

Hey y'all, watch this...one of our famous redneck "last word" sayings...
Watch the avatar change.  At least one of you know me from that "other" forum and are used to seeing my avatar.  I've used a slightly different one here (have to keep my ID a secret, you know),
but I like the new one.  Probably add it tomorrow.
