DragonFly is an original composition by Marty Steele of THE MARTYS, performed by THE MARTYS,  (including Marty Howe on chromatic harmonica), at Front Street Grill, Nanaimo, BC Canada, June 2012.

Enjoy!

Hey Marty. I hope you realize just what you have here. This is the most important piece of jazz composition I have heard in over 35 years. It is very very valuable, so don't let anyone have it. This is your ticket kiddo. A little bit of 'New Yorkish' blues, some intimacy, some joy. Wow, I listened to it 7 times. You weren't tempted to over do it. The whole delivery was ne plus ultra.

Itīs  a  real good composition, BUT  the sound  level of the harmonica is lower than the other  instruments. It seems to me that some recordist doesnīt   like the harmonica sound. Years ago the same problem had  Stevie Wonder and Larry Adler  on some of  their performances.

Yeah, I know Zacly what you're saying Nico. When 'I' run into that, I use the old 'Parents' trick. You know..the one where there is all kinds of background stuff going on..screeching, laughing, breaking dishes and glasses, furniture falling over, house plants hitting the floor. lolol. I tune out any extraneous sounds and concentrate on what I want to hear. That's what I did to capture the pure deliciousness of this presentation.

Hey Smo-joe!

Thanks so much for the compliments and appreciation. I rang up Marty Steele, our Keyboard player (in THE MARTYS) and composer of the tune, and you absolutely made his day!

Marty is one of these guys who has dedicated his life to playing music. He is true to his calling and does whatever he can to keep playing. He just loves to play and is a wonderful composer who deserves to be recognized. I hope our collaboration is enduring.

He has many original tunes in his back pocket and hopefully will share some more. I too find DragonFly beautiful, and it is especially endearing as I was learning it just when my father passed (who I had been care giving for the last 6 years). So I always think of him when I play it.

Thanks again Smo-joe!
