"directions to Carnegie Hall"
pax:
I taugh myself piano 45 years ago. I play OK...but there were always big holes in my musical knowledge...so...when I picked up the Chromatic addiction I wanted to find a teacher and do it right!
I started out learning from books years ago but picked and chose what I wanted to learn...so...I've found the simple TRUTH!
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
So I'm learning Aolian is not just an old America piano but the natural minor scale, go figure, which leads to the harmonic and melodic minor,i think? Really cool stuff as scales go! In Mark Levines' book " Jazz Theory" he contends that most chords found in jazz can be derived from four scales...the Major, the Melodic minor, the Diminished and the whole-tone scale!
I BELIEVE that this will teach me the addresses to the rooms in the apartment building called a Chromatic, what do you think?
Gnarly He Man:
I think you have been having lunch with Smokey Joe--and I am JEALOUS!
PS Nothing does it like practice.
pax:
Can't blame Joe for the scales Gnarly, Just something I procrastinated! As Parker or Heidegger imply, to create one must let go...but first one must have some thing to let go of! Something like that...
Bluesy:
