suzuki gregoire maret interior weights
stevenpetkov:
Has anyone played around with removing one or more of the weights attached to the gregoire maret comb? If so, with what results?
Thanks.

A.J.Fedor:
No, but I've put weights in some of mine (not Suzukis yet) and am pleased with the results. The actual sound is, of course unchanged but I like the "feel" better than the feel of a featherweight instrument. I have a MeisterKlasse and a stainless steel 270 and have come to like the "heft" of a heavier axe, so I began modifying some of my other ones with plumbers solder in the available nooks and crannies in the plastic combs. It's actually amazing how much more expensive a cheap Chromatic seems when you add a little weight to it. 8) Hey, anyone knows; bottom line is that the music is all if the music's in your head, so I think any allusion that fits in there as well that helps the music is acceptable. 8)

I have rare earth magnets on the back spring of one of my CX 12s. I go along with what Age says: the primary effect is to make the harmonica feel heavier. I have other CX 12s I play on, so I'm not playing the heavy one very often. But it feels nice. I'll have to experiment with some comparisons, strictly empirical, non-scientific.

When I worked at Suzuki, the consensus from clients was that they were unhappy with the sonic results when they removed the weights.
A.J.Fedor:
Don't know what weights do for Suzukis, in all honesty, unless maybe they're magnetic or somethin else bazarre, I really don't know what effect weighting would have, with the possible exception of maybe "dampening?" and that's even a stretch IMO :P
