What can you say about such a luscious performance? This is one of the most sensitive performances of 'Smile" I've ever heard. It contains all the beauty and poignancy of this timeless ballad along with luscious tone, the exactly right amount of vibrato, a full, rich approach and marvelous accompaniment - wonderful!
I feel like moving to LA so I can study with JK!
Bravo!

Yes, he has the tone you would expect from someone with his experience.
He makes the harmonica sound like a musical instrument.

Yes, Gary, a musical instrument for certain. And it raises hopes, doesn't it? I wonder what instrument he plays? Sounds like a big Hohner to me.

And flute, and clarinet, and oboe, all of which inform his harmonica playing. He's a session musician in California. He studies with Tommy Morgan. He favors 270s.

Actually, alto sax is Jon's main axe, but like all or most WW players, especially studio musicians, he doubles on several others. And of course his harmonica playing benefits from it, as Grizzly suggests.

On listening to the first couple of bars, I thought Meisterklasse. Then along with his slider speed I thought Meisterklasse. But what do I know  ::)

A 270?  certainly lovely tone for the song. Not over long on the impro' either, but I would have enjoyed a little more  :)

I don't remember jon's ever mentioning sax. Make sense, though. BTW, his flute is a Brannen Cooper (www.brannenflutes.com), from the company I work for.

270 Deluxe, I think--I know he uses both, but favors the deluxe.
And I wouldn't be surprised if the improv was written out . . .
