Half valving the Seydel Deluxe
« on: September 17, 2011, 06:10:06 AM »
Have any of you tried half-valving a Seydel Deluxe?  Are they sufficiently air tight?

Also, how low can they be half valved?  The entire harp, all but the bottom two holes, all but the bottom octave, etc?  I ask because CX12s seem to to best with the bottom octave valved.  Is this also true of Seydel Deluxe?

I tried it, but didn't like the results.
Diminished tuning all the time!  Sirius (G dim), G48s (Bb dim, C dim, & C# dim), CX-12 (Ab dim), 260

To answer my own question, the upper two octaves seem to work pretty well on a half valved Seydel Deluxe.  I found the lowest octave to be a bit too leaky without the valves.  Mine has the acrylic comb, in case it matters.

I haven't even tried it and don't like the results!  ;D
My Seydel Deluxe sounds pretty good, but was not especially tight from the get-go and loosing the valves woould just push it over the edge for me. It would end up as a cute little axe that I never play cuz I don't have the time to re-valve it.
The greatest satisfaction, is laying a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at you.
