Yes, that's the song.  I just listened to all the versions I could find on youtube.  The song seems to fit Joe Cocker really well.  Two other good versions are by Yusuf Islam (the former Cat Stevens) and Nina Simone (the studio version, not her live performances). Jimmy had a voice like Joe Cocker's, but his style was somewhere between Islam's and Simone's.  There is a lot of space in all three versions for fills and solos, so they are closer to what I heard long ago.  Brought me back.
