Show us your YouTube?
« on: July 29, 2008, 09:22:04 PM »
Here's a new board!
Hey we all wanna hear each other play right? Sure we do. So, if you don't have something in our Gallery, how about listing your YouTube, Myspace, etc. links for the rest of us?

I always look at videos by members when I run across a link.  It would be nice to have them in one spot. Can we post links to members videos that we run across or do you prefer that members themselves post the links?

We'll take'em any way we can get'em!
You're thinking just like me. It would be cool to have them all in one spot. I can put them on a stickey post and add to it as they come in. In fact let me do thing over. Stand by, I gotta make a new catagory  :)

YouTube has a way of jumping all over the place. One minute, we're looking at a Chromatic player and two clicks later we get 911 conspiracy clips. With this new feature, we can always come back to a common point of reference; SlideMeister. Sure there are good Chromatic players out there that are not SlideMeisters, but we're going to keep this in the family. If non-members want to be listed here, guess what? They'll just have to join us.  ;)

May also suggest that members tag their videos with "slidemeister." It's much easier to search YouTube using the tagging system than it is to try to keep an entire page of links (on a different site, no less) updated.

It's on a Richter tuned chromatic. I'm not really crazy about a chromatic tuned that way, but I do like the chords.
Most of my videos are about repair or playing, I don't have a lot of actual just playing. Roger and I are planning to do another video or two during lunch break today. I'll be playing "The Roscoe" this old Hohner 270 my grandpa got me for Christmas one year when I was a kid.

I just finished uploading my first videos to YouTube.
I found that by converting them to the MPEG-4 format they upload successfully whereas WMV files sometimes don't.

I don't use MSN or play 64X's anymore but DannyG wasn't an available name when I signed up on YouTube, so I used an old MSN email address, DannyG64X.
At my harmonica party I videotaped my friend Grizzly (Warner) playing his guitar and singng a couple of his original songs that are included on a soon to be released CD. The reason I didn't provide a link in my post is because there is no harmonica content. If you're interested, go to YouTube and type "Grizzly I Got My Hippie Back" or Grizzly Bad Seed"

Thanks a lot. You guys are very kind. I was using one of my CX-12's on this song. There are a few "creative tones" (mistakes) but I don't like recording so I was OK with the first take.

rgn39 - Sorry the link doesn't work for you. You can try this myspace.com/mark_harp but you'll have to click play. It doesn't start playing automatically.

Autumn Leaves is a fun song to play. Again, thanks everyone for the nice words.

Autumn Leaves IS a lotta fun and in fact, I have it scheduled for my next CD. Now that I think about it, I don't remember if it's in A minor or E minor, but A minor is one of my favorite keys.

Ive been doing a blog on youtube posting something every couple of weeks, no matter how bad, hoping to show  progress and encourage others to take up the chromatic. Heres my latest. Any constructive criticism will be much appreciated.

Okay :) You might wanna work on your timing a bit. You seem to be getting ahead of the music in a couple spots, but you're off to a good start!  :)

I was kind of leery of posting any songs here amongst the pros but then decided that the only way to improve is to have your mistakes pointed out. Gary was kind enough to show me where I was off on the timing. I am really impressed about how sensitive you guys's ears are.

Years of counting to four . . .
By the way, did you know there are three kinds of people? Those who can count and those who can't . . .

lol. Did you ever take a stab at standup comedy? I was just fixing to edit my last reply. I really did not realize how loose I was with the timing until I went back and checked out the places you mentioned. I just realized that I do not even keep time with my foot. I will remedy that immediately.

Hi, Ron,

Pushing or pulling the beat can be an effective tool for interpreting music; but, as others have pointed out, keeping the beat comes first. Then you can start messing with it.

As a soloist with a backup group, in some ways you can get away with a lot more than playing with others in an ensemble.

Your foot is about as far from Beat Central as a body can get. I would suggest keeping time by tapping your chest, and singing the tune, before you play. You don't have to sing well, or on pitch even, to get a sense of the rhythm.

Listen to someone else's rendition, and play along. That may help, too.

Your playing is very heartfelt and effective. Keep playing—and working!

He's using Band in a Box for backup--so I suggested he mute the melody and watch for when the note turns red.

PS Gary: Sorry to hear of your dismissal. It doesn't mean that you have nothing to offer. There may be other groups in your community that would welcome your contribution.
